David Archdale

David Archdale joined the 43rd Entry Boy Entrants on 1st June 1961, and served for 22 years. During his service he served at units both at home and abroad. Spending time on 39, 543. 58, 4, 60 and 41 Squadrons. In February 1979 he found himself diverted from photographic work onto recruiting but in June 1981 was reunited with the trade for his last tour of duty as an ACF Instructor at Cosford, where it had begun 20 years earlier. For his services to 41 Squadron, David was awarded a commendation in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

After leaving the service, he became a business advisor and lectured at Leeds University, also working for DHP Enterprises and for the Prince of Wales Trust. Married to Jennifer, David had three sons. Gary. Grant and Guy and Following in his father’s footsteps, Gary has since joined the RAF.

Sadly David contracted terminal cancer and died on 10th April 1998.
