David Emlyn (Dai) Powell 20 May 1940 – 23 September 2010
Dai Powell who died from cancer at the age of 70 was a very dear friend and ex colleague from the RAF. Dai started his career in the RAF in 30th entry at Cosford in early 1957 passing out in 1958. I first met Dai on 81 Sqdn RAF Tengah, Singapore in 1960 where we were engaged in supporting PR aircraft and processing in the factory. Dai made many friends on the Squadron and kept in touch with several of them during his life.
After leaving Singapore in 1962 Dai served in Northern Ireland, Finningley and Wyton, fitting in another tour to RAF Tengah as a corporal on 60 and 64 Sqdn’s from 1964 to 1966.
During his life Dai was passionate about gardening and recycling and had an allotment where he managed to supply his family with vegetables and fruit for many years. Dai was also a very keen Ten Pin bowler having bowled initially during his second tour in Singapore.
He represented Cheshire veterans for a number of years. Since retiring, Dai kept on with his passion for Ten Pin Bowling, by working part time at a local Alley. Dai and his wife Muriel also took up Line Dancing which they attended at least twice a week with local societies.
Dai will be sadly missed by Muriel his wife, his children Julie, Linda and Colin and 3 grand children. He will also be missed by all his ex colleagues who have stayed in touch throughout the past 50 years.
