Simon Dee

1935 – 2009

He joined the RAF as a photographer in the fifties and took pictures In the Suez crisis and also in Cyprus during the troubles. He also saw service at Baghdad and was auditioned there for BFBS.

Simon Dee who died aged 74 on August 30th was probably Britain’s first superstar and was watched at his height by 18 million viewers

He was born Cyril Nicholas Henty-Dodd on July 28th 1935 in Ottowa, Canada
